Descriptive Gazetteer Entry for Leven, Loch

Leven, Loch, in co. and par. of Kinross; is about 85 miles in circuit, stores at its full height 600 million cubic ft. of water, and gives off the river Leven; contains seven islands, on one of which, Castle Island, Mary Queen of Scots was imprisoned 1567-68; has long been famous for its trout.
