Southwick.-- town and township, Monk Wearmouth par., Durham, on river Wear, on NW. side of Sunderland and wholly within its parl. limits, 1013 ac., pop. 8178; P.O., T.O.; has shipbuilding, glass-making, brickworks, and potteries. Remains of a monastery founded in 674 are here.
