PRESTON, a township in Tynemouth parish, Northumberland; adjacent to North Shields town and within Tynemouth borough. Acres, 542. Pop. in 1851, 983; in 1861, 1, 456. Part of the area contiguous to North Shields was laid out, prior to 1861, for streets and building-sites. See Shields ( North) and Tynemouth.
