In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Whistley like this:
Whistley in Hurst, township, Hurst par., Berks, in E. of co., 3 miles NW. of Wokingham, 1933 ac., pop. 1249; contains Whistley Park, seat.
