In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Oglethorpe like this:

OGLETHORPE, a hamlet in Bramham township and parish, W. R. Yorkshire; 3¼ miles W of Tadcaster. Oglethorpe Hall was the seat of the ancient family of Oglethorpe, who lost their estates in the civil wars of Charles I.; and is now a farm-house.
