In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Roseberry Topping like this:

ROSEBERRY-TOPPING, a mountain in Cleveland, N. R. Yorkshire; 3¼ miles S S W of Guisbrough. It risesto an altitude of 1,022 feet; consists of oolite, with ironore and beds of alum and shells; is crowned with remains of ancient British huts, in a double series round its summit; and commands a very extensive view.
