In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Bucklesham like this:
BUCKLESHAM, a parish in Woodbridge district, Suffolk; 3¾ miles S of Bealings r. station, and 5½ ESE of Ipswich. It has a post office under Ipswich. Acres, 1,822. Real property, £3,231. Pop., 362. Houses, 70. Many curious petrifactions are found. The living is a Rectory in the diocese of Norwich. Value, £566.* Patron, the Rev. E. Walford. The church is of brick, and was repaired in 1842. There is a national school.
