Girthgate, an ancient bridle-road in Roxburghshire and Edinburghshire, leading northward from Old Melrose up the vale of Allen Water and over the moors to the ancient hospice of Soutra. Traces of it still exist.Ord. Sur., sh. 25, 33, 1865-63.
