Descriptive Gazetteer Entry for Lochore House

Lochore House, a mansion, with well-wooded grounds, in Ballingry parish, Fife, 3 miles NNW of Lochgelly, under which there is a post office of Lochore. The lake, Loch Ore, which gave it name, was a considerable sheet of water, formed by expansion of the river Ore, and was drained, towards the close of last century, with the result of its bottom becoming very fertile corn land, but subject to floods in times of heavy rains. See Ballingry.—Ord. Sur., sh. 40, 1867.
