LYME-HANDLEY, a township, with a village, in Prestbury parish, Cheshire; near the Peak Forest canal and the Buxton railway, 7 miles NNE of Macclesfield. Acres, 3,920. Real property, £3,145; of which £445 are in mines. Pop., 237. Houses, 52. The property belongs to Thomas Leigh, Esq.; and has descended to him from Sir Perkin Leigh, who received it from the Black Prince, and was at Cressy. Lyme Hall, Mr. Leigh's seat, is a noble quadrangular mansion, partly Tudor, partly by Leoni; contains portraits of the Black Prince and Sir Perkin, and a picture gallery; commands a very fine view, and stands in a park well-stocked with red deer.
