In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Kildrummy like this:
Kildrummy, par. and vil., Aberdeenshire - par., (Milltown of Kildrummy), on river Don, 10 miles W. of Alford; 1 Bank; 1 mile W. of vil. is Kildrummy Castle (with chapel), captured by Edward I. in 1306, and now an imposing ruin; in vicinity is Kildrummy Lodge.
