In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Laggan like this:

Laggan.-- par. and hamlet, Badenoch dist., Inverness-Shire--par., 150,106 ac., pop. 917; hamlet, on river Spey, 11 miles SW. of Kingussie; P.O.; Mrs Grant of Laggan (1755-1836), authoress of several popular works on the Highlands, lived in the manse here from 1779 to 1803; the par. contams Loch Laggan, 7 miles long NE. and SW.
