In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Rothiemurchus like this:

Rothiemurchus, quoad sacra par., Duthil par., Inverness-shire, pop. 293; the church, on river Spey, is 2½ miles SW. of Aviemore sta.

The location is that of the original parish church of Rothiemurchus.
