Fermoy, market town, township, and par., with ry. sta., NE. co. Cork, on river Blackwater, 14 miles E. of Mallow and 161 miles SW. of Dublin--township, 327 ac., pop. 6454; par., 3480 ac., pop. 6961; 3 Banks. Market-day, Saturday. It is situated in a rich agricultural district, and has considerable trade in corn. The military barracks are capable of accommodating about 2500 men. There are several excellent educational institutions, among which is St Colman's College. The salmon fishery on the Blackwater is considered one of the finest in Ireland.
