Clonmacnoise, par., NW. King's co., on river Shannon, containing Shannon Bridge, 5 miles NW. of Ferbane ry. sta., 21,918 ac., pop. 2523. C., which was one of the chief seats of religion among the ancient Irish and the burial-place of their princes, is also called the "Seven Churches." Its cathedral, churches, crosses, and two round towers are now in ruins.
