Lanesborough, vil., Rathcline par., cos. Longford and Roscommon, on river Shannon, 9 miles SW. of the town of Longford, and 10 miles NE. of Roscommon, pop. 272; P.O., 1 Bank. Market-day, Tuesday. Lanesborough has a fine stone bridge of 6 arches, and a swivel arch of iron for the passage of lumber-boats and small steamers. It was formerly a parl. bor. It gives the title of Earl to the family of Butler.
