Descriptive Gazetteer Entry for Swarkeston

Swarkeston, par. and vil. (ry. sta. Chellaston and Swarkestone), Derbyshire - par., 943 ac., pop. 209; vil., on river Trent, 5 miles S. of Derby; P.O.; the Trent is crossed here by Swarkeston Bridge, a 29-arched structure nearly 4000 ft. long; Swarkeston House was fortified for King Charles in 1643, but was taken by the Parliament.
