Burgh-by-Sands, par. and vil. with ry. sta. (Burgh), E. Cumberland, 5½ miles NW. of Carlisle, 6170 ac. (60 water), 99 tidal water, and 68 foreshore, pop. 862; an obelisk, 1 m. to N., marks the place where Edward I. died, in 1307, on his march against Scotland.
