Descriptive Gazetteer Entry for FAIRFIELD

FAIRFIELD, a mountain in Westmoreland; between the basin of Ulleswater and that of Windermere. Its summit is 2½ miles SSE of the summit of Helvellyn; has an altitude of 2, 950 feet above sea-level; and commands an extensive and impressive view. Its southern declivity is a long, tumnlated, broken ridge, descending to the vicinity of Ambleside; and projects, about midway between summit and skirt, into an abrupt secondary height called Nab Scar, commanding a brilliant view over the adjacent vales.
