SHEEPSTOR, a parish in Tavistock district, Devon; 4 miles N E by N of Bickleigh r. station, and 7 S E of Tavistock. Post-town, Tavistock. Acres, 3, 595. Real property, £881. Pop., 98. Houses, 20. The surface comprises some of the most picturesque and romanticportions of the W side of Dartmoor; and includes Sheep-storrock, a precipitous, fissured, soaring eminence, figuring conspicuously in the moor's landscape, and fabled tobe the haunt of the Devonshire fairies, the pixies. The living is a p. curacy, annexed to Bickleigh, in the diocese of Exeter. The church is old.
