OGMORE, a hamlet and a hundred in Glamorgan. The hamlet is in Ewenny parish, and lies at the confluence of the Ogmore and the Ewenny rivers, 3 miles S Wby S of Bridgend. Ogmore Castle here was built in the time of William Rufus; formed a very remarkable specimen of a Norman stronghold, surrounded by a moatabout 50 feet wide, and from 20 to 30 feet deep; and is now represented by little more than the keep. The hundred comprises much of the basin of the Ogmore river, particularly of the E side; extends along the coast south-eastward to the vicinity of Lantwit-Major; and contains Ewenny parish and fourteen other parishes.
