In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Clunie like this:
Clunie.-- par., NE. Perthshire, 5½ miles SW. of Blairgowrie, 11,678 ac. (294 water), pop. 582. On an islet in Clunie Loch are the ruins of Clunie Castle (1485-1514).
