In 1882-4, Frances Groome's Ordnance Gazetteer of Scotland described Broomlee like this:
Broomlee, a hamlet, with a station, in Linton parish, Peeblesshire. The hamlet lies on the river Lyne, ¾ mile SSE of Linton village. The station is on the Leadburn and Dolphinton railway, and serves for Linton. Extensive improvements, in draining, enclosing, and planting land, were, not long ago, effected in the neighbourhood.
