COWGILL, a chapelry in Sedbergh parish, W. R. Yorkshire; near the boundary with Westmoreland, not far from the Midland railway, in the south-eastern vicinity of Sedbergh. It was constituted in 1838. Post town, Dent, under Kendal. Rated property, £1, 016. Pop., 330. Houses, 73. The property is divided among a few. The living is a p. curacy in the diocese of Ripon. Value, not reported. Patrons, Trustees. The church is tolerable.
