Burstall Garth  East Riding

In 1870-72, John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales described Burstall Garth like this:

BURSTALL-GARTH, a manor in Skeffling parish, E. R. Yorkshire; 4½ miles SE of Patrington. A cell to a Benedictine Abbey near Albemarle in Normandy, was founded here, in the 12th century, by Stephen, Earl of Albemarle; passed to the monastery of Kirstall; and was eventually swept away by the sea.

The location is that of Church Road, Skeffling, which is where Burstall Garth farm, which still exists, is located. The name "Burstall Garth" has not been located on a topographic map, despite extensive checking of late 19th and early 20th century 1:2,500 and 1:10,560 maps. Additional information about this locality is available for Skeffling
