In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Blarney like this:

Blarney, vil. with ry. sta., in co. and 4 miles NW. of Cork, on Blarney rivulet, pop. 513; P.O., T.O. It has remains of a castle, with the celebrated "Blarney Stone." The seat of Blarney Castle is in the vicinity.
