In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Chapelizod like this:
Chapelizod.-- town and par. with ry. sta., in co. and 3 miles W. of Dublin, on river Liffey -- par., 532 ac., pop. 1659; town, pop. 1583; P.O., T.O. The par. embraces part of Phoenix Park; part of the town is within Palmerston par.
