In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Pomeroy like this:
Pomeroy, par. and vil. with ry. sta., mid. co. Tyrone - par., 15,951 ac., pop. 5231; vil., 8 miles NW. of Dungannon, pop. 438; P.O., T.O., 1 Bank. Market-day, Tuesday. Adjacent to vil. is Pomeroy House, seat.
