In 1887, John Bartholomew's Gazetteer of the British Isles described Rosslare like this:
Rosslare, par. and ry. sta., in co. and 6 miles SE. of Wexford, 2532 ac., pop. 745; Rosslare Harbour, ry. sta., is 2 ¾ miles SE. of Rosslare; Rosslare Point is the extremity of a long narrow peninsula at the entrance to Wexford Harbour.
